WebThe Hill coefficient n Hill describes the degree of cooperativity of an interaction: n Hill >1 indicates positive cooperativity (e.g. binding of O 2 to hemoglobin), while n Hill <1 indicates negative cooperativity (e.g. for some dimeric GPCRs or metabolic Enzymes). Webor cooperativity can be expressed by Hill’s coefficient (n max) as the highst slope of the Hill plot of log(S /(1– S)) vs. log P (Hill, 1910). The O 2 affinity of Hb can be modified by carbon dioxide. An increase in the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (P CO 2) with a concomitant decrease in pH reduces the O 2 affinity of Hb.
